Age UK Ealing initially approached Premier Charity Solutions regarding their antiquated Windows 7 devices, which were due to be unsupported by Microsoft from January 2020. Upon further inspection, their Account Manager noticed the organisation hosted an on-premise Windows SBS 2008 server, also unsupported by Microsoft from January 2020.
The Brandon Centre were struggling as their Server 2008 & Windows 7 Operating System’s were soon to be end of life and their server was running without a manufacturer warranty, which had expired 2010. In addition to this they also had low server storage space, no remote access to files and no firewall, meaning the company had many security and compatibility and issues.
The Brandon Centre were keen to upgrade their current server and with that migrate to the cloud, in order to allow easy access and management of all their files and to optimize their data storage and remote working setup.
Age UK Surrey, although having invested heavily in a modern cloud-based IT strategy, were struggling with their current IT provider. They had been set up with a datacentre-hosted Terminal Server which was very slow and caused frequent disconnections, due to poor configuration and management of their server environment.
The security of their server was a concern, especially with the increase in brute force attacks aimed at Terminal Services.
Age UK Surrey were experiencing frequent VPN drop-outs affecting their productivity. Additionally, the UPS at their head office had a very low capacity, meaning it was unable to facilitate power to all necessary devices.
Finally, Age UK Surrey were working with an end of life DrayTek Router which was no longer receiving any firmware or security updates from the manufacturer.
Premier have a long-standing relationship with Fusion which began in 2013. At the time Premier introduced a new on-premise server setup, bringing management of user accounts, devices and organisational data into a central administrable setup.
Fusion’s server was due to fall out of warranty and become end of life in early 2019, therefore an important review was undertaken to determine the future setup of Fusion’s IT network.
Southwark Pensioners were not yet using Office 365, meaning all of their users’ emails and files were not under the correct security procedures to keep the data of the company secure. However, Southwark Pensioners were concerned to whether the fiber broadband in their area had high enough speeds to migrate them to Office 365.
Furthermore, Southwark Pensioners were also considering upgrading their current server as the warranty was due to run out very soon, and Dell would not renew their warranty anymore due to its age.
Choices is one of Premier Charity Solutions longest standing clients. Their existing infrastructure is server based and the server was coming to end of life and needed replacing. The organisation also needed to implement best practice for GDPR.
Choices had recently fallen on hard times due a drop-in government funding and several difficult internal changes and therefore available funding for any upgrades to their infrastructure was minimal.
Big Kid Foundation had inherited Apple Macs, however these had not been set up properly and they did not have formal IT support either internally or externally and most issue were resolved using a Google search.
They were using Dropbox for file storage, this had not been fully configured and therefore was failing to sync between multiple users’ machines. There was no central way of managing their beneficiaries, donors, supporters etc details.
The biggest issue of all is that the charity had no funds to deal with any of the above.
